Week Three: The Post War(s) Era (1951-1999)
Activity 2: What’s in a Name?
During the 1950s the population of New Zealand grew by 400,000 people. That is huge! In fact, so many people were having babies that many people refer to this period in our history as the ‘baby boom.’ Popular baby names in 1950s New Zealand were:
GIRLS BOYS
Christine John
Susan David
Margaret Peter
Judith Michael
Jennifer Robert
Read through the lists. Are these popular names in your school? On your blog, tell us which names are currently popular in your school. Please provide, at least, three girls’ names and three boys’ names that are popular.
When I was going to school, the name ‘Jennifer’ was the most popular girl’s name and the name ‘Matthew’ was the most popular boy’s name.
I am telling the truth the on the list only one of the children have this name which is Peter. We don't have any girls on the list that are named like that I think in 2017 the names are very intrusting.
Do you have anyone in your school and there name is on you list write there name down bellow.
MARRY CHRISTMAS
To all the kids write down below what are you excited about for next year!!!
and to all the grown-ups write what was you experiment at your school. Also what was your favourite gift and what you got for Chrismas?

Week Three: The Post War(s) Era (1951-1999)
Activity 1: Meat and Three Veg
It was common for women in the 1950s to stay home with their children and raise their family. They were called ‘housewives.’ Many housewives followed a simple rule when they prepared the evening meal: the ‘meat and three veg’ rule. This meant that they prepared dinners that included three different vegetables and a type of meat (eg. beef, lamb, or chicken).
It is a good idear to eat meat and veg when I used to go to my antys house she used to give me one chican and brocole potato carae cucomer it is a good to become helthy but womans dont kneed to be housewifes because they have the right to go and make there life because womas life is not to be speend in the kichin all day the men should try how it feels like to be a housewife.Dont be scarred speck up tell eveyone if something is happing wrong.
Week Two: A Period of Change (1870-1950)
When World War II ended, a number of people from Europe moved to New Zealand looking for a peaceful place to live and raise a family. When they came, they brought recipes and foods from their native countries with them, including hamburgers, pizza and other delicious foods.

Week Two: A Period of Change (1870-1950)
Activity 2: Making a Fashion Statement Red for inportant , Blue for question , and black for the main story
In the years following World War II, things slowly returned to normal in New Zealand. Soldiers returned home and settled back into regular life; and national sporting teams, like the New Zealand cricket team, got back together and started playing matches again. In the late 1940s, men and women would go to watch these events, men wearing hats and suits and women wearing dresses, hats, and gloves.
Compare the pictures of common clothing from the late 1940s to what you wear now (i.e. in 2017). Are they similar or are they quite different?
There is so much diffrent to now and then because in this photo there is only black wight and brown and now there are verity of colours I would like to sugest I like 2017 beter then the olden days pluse these people could be alive or not I am not quite shoure how they dress up but if they are alive they must be wering 2017 cloths wich is so colour full onother thing I am adding is moblile phoe it is so good because if you get stuck or you school gets on fire or you get sent from school early you can alway contact you pearents but some people use it for diffarent perposes which afect children because they useso things wich the mobile is not made for.
What do you think write your idears down below ?

After six long years of fighting, World War II finally came to an end in 1945. The entire country was ecstatic and parties were thrown all over New Zealand to celebrate VE Day (Victory in Europe). Imagine that you were living in New Zealand in 1945 and you had to plan a VE day party at your house. Who would you invite? What would you do to celebrate?

Leslie Andrew VC
A Railways Department clerk and the son of the headmaster of Wanganui East School, Leslie Andrew lied about his age so that he could serve overseas. He arrived in France in September 1916 and fought with the 2nd Wellington Battalion on the Somme before being wounded.
On 31 July the New Zealanders attacked La Basseville once again. The 1st
Auckland Battalion was to hit the German defences while 2nd Wellington was to take the village and establish positions there. Shortly before 4 a.m. the New Zealanders began advancing behind an artillery barrage. Leslie Andrew led two sections sent to destroy the machine-gun position in the inn. As they moved forward, they saw that another machine gun on the nearby railway line was holding up other New Zealand troops. They rushed the position, killed the crew and captured the gun before turning back to their original objective. Approaching the inn from the side, the New Zealanders crawled through thistles to within striking distance. They threw in grenades and then stormed the position, killing some of the Germans and capturing a second machine gun.For his bravery and leadership during the attack, 20-year-old Leslie Andrew was awarded the Victoria Cross.

Week Two: A Period of Change (1870-1950)
Bonus Activity: Paying it Forward
In the mid-1930s, things began to change for the better in New Zealand. More people were able to find work and receive a steady paycheck. They were still careful, however, with their money and rarely, if ever, bought treats or gifts for one another.
Imagine that you were able to travel back in time to visit a family in the 1930s. What special gifts or treats would you like to bring with you?` I would bring chocolate some cloths ,blankets ,toys, money and a bed What about you?

In the 1920s a new artistic movement emerged in New Zealand (and around the world). It was called ‘Art Deco.’ The picture to the right is a classic example of an ‘Art Deco’ piece. Take a close look at the painting. Do you like it?

3 Activity: Waka Ama
To this day, the people of New Zealand still use waka. Instead of using their waka to transport them from one place to another, they sometimes use waka in special events and in sporting competitions such as Waka Ama. Both boys and girls compete in Waka Ama boat races.
Watch this short video of a Waka Ama race. On your blog tell us whether you would like to be in a Waka Ama race one day. Why or why not?

Summer learning journey
Activity 2: Setting Sail
The first settlers to come to New Zealand must have been really brave! They had to leave their original homes and sail thousands of miles across the ocean on a special boat called a ‘waka’ to reach New Zealand.
Imagine that you were on board one of the wakas. On your blog, write a short letter to a friend telling them about your voyage to New Zealand. In the letter be sure to tell them how you feel about moving to a new country.
Dear all of my friend's
If I was on that waka I would be exited and nervs Exited because I was going to a new country and nervs because something bad could of happened also I will be crying because I will miss my voyage. Thank you for reading my letter .
