Week Four: Contemporary Kiwis

Day 2: A Decade of Sport

Activity 1: Chasing Great
Over the past 17 years New Zealand has experienced a number of sporting highlights, perhaps none larger than the back-to-back Rugby World Cup victories in 2011 and 2015. In both competitions our national rugby team, the All Blacks, was captained by a man named Richie McCaw. He is arguably one of the best rugby players of all time. A movie called Chasing Great was recently created to document his incredible rugby career.

Please watch the trailer for Chasing Great and read about Richie McCaw online. On your blog tell us three things that you learned about Richie that you did not know beforehand. What else would you like to know about Richie?

1. I never new that He became the first All Black to reach 100 Tests in 2011 and by the end of the 2014 season, he had played 137 Tests (coming off the bench just six times), and was Captain in 100 Tests.
2. I never knew he has been IRB Player of the Year a record three times (2006, 2009, 2010)
3. I never new he had a injury for the Tri Nations and was prominent in matches against the Wallabies and again on the end of year tour, getting his second IRB World Player of the Year title.

  1. Hey Siyona,

You have been amazing with completing the activities, do you enjoy doing them? Let me know what you think about the programme :)

Wow, it looks like you have done some research about Richie McCaw. Thank you for sharing some information about Richie. I also didn't know that he is the first All Black to reach 100 test matches and received IRB Player of the Year 3 times. Wow he sure is a great rugby player!

Do you have any other favourite players? I do not know a lot about rugby so I don't really have a favourite player, but since I read these information about Richie, I think my favourite player so far would be Richie McCaw! It's great how we can share information and ideas online, right?

I look forward to reading your next post!

    Jade C.
