Week Four: Contemporary Kiwis

Activity 1: Mixed-Member Proportional (MMP)

In 1996, New Zealand adopted the MMP voting system. In September of 2017 we had a national election. Everyone in New Zealand, over the age of 18, was invited to vote for who they wanted to form the next government in New Zealand. The race was really close and in the end, three different political parties (Labour, New Zealand First and the Green Party), came together to form the new government. It is called a ‘coalition government’ because it includes different people from different political parties.

Imagine that you had to form a coalition government with two other people.  Who would you choose to partner with?

I will chose my mum because she has good sugechons also because my mum is very polite, caring, nice and lovely and my unkile because he also has good sugechons.

  1. Hey Siyona,

This is Jade C from the Summer Learning Journey team :)

I like how you would choose your mum because I would do the same as well! I think my mum is a really wise person so she would make good suggestions and decisions. My mum is kind and caring so she would help others in need as well. She would be a very good politician because she is confident and a very strong speaker.

I would also choose my friend CJ as he is very smart and thoughtful. He would make wise decisions and care for us when we have a problem or whenever we face an obstacle. Also, he is very kind and caring, he thinks of others before him and he never gives up. He is willing to take risks and always stay positive at all times! :)

It would be really nice to work with people that you can trust!

It was really nice to share our personal thoughts and opinions, I look forward to reading more of your blogs and comment on them!

    Cheers,
    Jade C.
